In relation to the observance of the National Disaster Resilience Month held every year

in July, the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Unit of Adiong Memorial State College (AMSC) in cooperation with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) conducted a special activity on fire safety, emergency preparedness, and health awareness. The objective of this yearly observance is to spread awareness of the disaster risk reduction measures, encouraging preparedness and active participation of communities against both naturally- and humanly-induced hazards.

The plenary session was graced by a few distinguished speakers from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) — Ditsaan-Ramain. SF01 Norolbayan B. Moner led the cohort as the keynote speaker. Followed by F03 Macadar L. Guro, who had an extensive lecture on general fire safety and prevention techniques, proper use of fire extinguishers, evacuation procedures, and hazard awareness. While, F01 Sittie Nor A. Arafat had a lecture on several health risks that commonly emerge during disasters. These include but are not limited to waterborne diseases, particularly leptospirosis, and other post-disaster ailments; emphasizing the importance of preventive measures and early detection. Subsequently, an open forum was conducted, thus allowing the audience to interact with the speakers and ask questions, which further enhanced the discussion.

Towards the end of the event and to augment the participants’ knowledge in actions toward emergencies, a demonstration on safety in case of fire and emergency response was conducted, of which was actively participated by all teaching and non-teaching personnel, students, security personnel, and support staff of AMSC.

All these point to what the observance of AMSC DRRM seeks to establish — a safe, informed, and disaster-resilient academic community aligned to the national battle for strengthening disaster preparedness across all levels of society.
